I. How Long Does Car Waxing Last?
The duration of car waxing depends primarily on the quality of the car wax. There are various car waxes on the market, ranging from high-end to low-end, and therefore there’s no specific timetable for their lasting effect. However, the time intervals generally don’t vary significantly; you should wax again when the wax layer thins. Typically, each car wash removes some wax, so frequent washing after waxing is not recommended. Usually, the wax layer will completely wear off after two to three washes, although there are exceptions with high-quality waxes.
II. How Often Should You Wax Your Car?
1. How Often Should You Wax a New Car?
Some people wax their new cars immediately after purchase, which is not advisable. New cars already have a protective wax layer on the paint. Waxing too early will remove this original wax, causing unnecessary waste. Generally, new cars don’t need waxing within the first five months. It’s important to understand the proper waxing frequency. Waxing involves cleaning the paint surface with wax and then polishing the car to achieve the desired effect. However, waxing and polishing don’t create a protective film on your car’s paint. Instead, they actually remove some of the oxidized clear coat layer. Therefore, vehicles that are waxed frequently will have a thinner clear coat.
2. Determining Waxing Based on Driving Environment
Due to different driving environments, waxing should be considered based on actual usage and the environment of the city. Rainwater contains a large amount of acidic substances, and in areas with more rainfall, waxing can be done more frequently.
3. Determining Waxing Based on Parking Environment
The waxing interval should vary depending on the vehicle’s driving environment and parking location. Vehicles parked in garages and driven primarily on good roads generally only need waxing every 3-4 months.
Vehicles parked outdoors, exposed to wind and rain, should ideally be waxed every 2-3 months. You can also judge by touch; generally, if the car body feels rough to the touch, it’s time to wax again.
