This is mainly caused by loose screws or clips, a loose car window, or foreign objects inside the window. It’s usually not noticeable when driving on bumpy roads, but the noise will become apparent.
2. Unusual noises during window operation
This could be caused by noise from the window regulator rails, or by a malfunction in the window regulator components such as the cable, rails, or sliders.
While unusual noises from car windows may not be a major issue, the noise can still be quite annoying. So, what can be done about unusual noises from car windows?
II. How to Solve Unusual Noises from Car Windows
If your car windows are making unusual noises, first find the source—which window is making the sound? Then, address the problem based on the cause:
1. Aging Rubber Sealing Strips
Cause: Rubber sealing strips are prone to cracking and aging due to long-term exposure to wind and rain, causing unusual noises from the windows.
Solution: If it’s a new car, you don’t need to replace the sealing strips immediately; simply apply lubricant evenly to them. If it’s an older car, the sealing strips may be worn out, and it’s recommended to replace them.
2. Debris in the Gap of the Window Glass
Cause: Over time, dust and particles accumulate in the gaps of the sealing strips in the car’s window grooves, which can cause the window to vibrate and make noises. Accumulated debris can not only cause noise but also affect the window’s operation.
Solution: Use a tool such as an air gun to clean the debris from the gaps in the car’s window glass.
3. Loose Sealing Strip
Cause: Loose screws or clips inside the window glass can cause rattling noises. These include screws securing the glass, window regulator rails, door panel clips, and other screws inside the door panel.
Solution: Take the vehicle to a repair shop to have a mechanic tighten these parts. Alternatively, if you have the tools and know how, you can tighten them yourself.
