How to Clean Your Car Trunk

car trunk cleaning

  1. After clearing out any clutter from the trunk, gently brush it to remove larger dust and sand particles, preparing it for subsequent cleaning.

  2. Trunk mats are often made of synthetic fibers or plush, which cannot be washed directly with water. Prepare a bottle of multi-purpose foam cleaner and use it with a brush to scrub.

  3. If your trunk is lined with a blanket, to remove oil stains, simply soak the mat in dish soap or laundry detergent for about half an hour, then gently brush it clean.

  4. To remove juice stains, dampen a cloth with a small amount of vinegar, cover the affected area for about 3 minutes, then wipe clean.

  5. For uncovered areas, especially those made of metal, use a brush with a little cleaning agent to scrub, then dry with a towel.

  6. For the edges of the trunk and the drainage channels, dilute dish soap with water, soak a towel in the solution, wipe clean, and then dry with a towel.

  7. After cleaning, spray some air freshener in the trunk to keep the air inside the car fresh.

  8. It’s best to buy a trunk mat to prevent dirt or liquids from entering and corroding the trunk surface. It also prevents items from sliding inside the trunk, reducing the possibility of interior contamination and damage. After all, cleaning a trunk mat is more convenient and economical than cleaning the interior.

Car Trunk Maintenance Precautions

  1. Don’t frequently pile heavy items in the trunk. Most cars have batteries and suspension systems attached to the rear, and these components cannot withstand long-term external pressure. When loading items, learn to “lighten the load” appropriately, reducing the number of items placed in the trunk when necessary.

  2. Don’t put easily perishable or odor-causing items in the trunk. The trunk space is limited, and it’s easy for harmful substances to accumulate, polluting the car’s interior and making the car (especially the trunk) more difficult to clean.

  3. Do not place items that can easily cause fire or explosion in the trunk; these are commonly known as “prohibited items.” These items can react with open flames, gasoline, etc. If you put gasoline, firecrackers, or other flammable items in the trunk during hot weather, it will not only damage the car’s core components but also render the trunk unusable.

  4. If you really can’t stand a dirty trunk and don’t have time to clean it frequently, you can choose to place a trunk mat in the trunk. Designed to fit the trunk’s dimensions and shape, these mats conform to the existing soft fleece material, leaving no noticeable gaps at the edges and fully protecting the trunk space.
